The EFCV are a volunteer group actively involved in the conservation and management of Epping Forest. Many habitats within Epping Forest are threatened. In order to maintain the diversity of these habitats we have, since 1977, undertaken practical tasks on important sites. Particularly threatened are the ponds and bogs of the forest, the open grasslands and heaths. We occasionally work outside the forest, assisting other conservation groups such as the Essex Wildlife Trust.
Our volunteers include people of all ages and abilities and we have tasks on most Sundays of the year, and also the occasional weekday. We are based at the Warren, near Loughton (which is on the London Underground Central Line).
Epping Forest is the largest public open space in the London area, measuring 19km x 4km, two-thirds of which is wooded and the same proportion designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
